OpenVPN for Windows 10 (Viscosity)
If you would like to set up a connection to proxy.sh OpenVPN servers on Viscosity, simply follow the easy steps described below.
Start by downloading the latest Viscosity release. Double-click on the installer. Allow the installer to make changes on your computer by clicking Yes.
Click Next on the welcome screen of Viscosity's setup wizard.
Check I accept the agreement and continue by clicking Next.
If you do not want to change the Destination Location just click Next.
To accept the default Start menu folder, click Next.
For convenient use, you can Create a desktop icon. Click Next.
You are now ready to install. Click Install.
When the installation has finished, check Launch Viscosity and click Finish.
Viscosity's welcome screen appears. Uncheck Show this window when Viscosity opens and click Close.
Download the .ovpn and .crt files (OpenVPN configuration files) using the download links available in your welcome email or panel's product details (or you can use our configuration files generator).
Right-click on Viscosity's taskbar item and select Preferences….
In the lower left corner of the Preferences window, there is a + button. When you click it, a pop-up menu appears. Select Import Connection/From File….
Navigate to the Downloads folder and select the .ovpn file of the server you would like to connect to. Click Open. A dialog window informs that the connection has been imported. Click OK.
Back in Viscosity's Preferences, select the newly imported connection named proxy.sh, then click Edit.
You do not need to alter too many settings, because most of them are read from the configuration file. The settings are shown for completeness and comparison.
In the General tab, you change the Connection Name to simply proxy.sh. Click Authentication.
The Authentication tab lists the authentication type and the used certificates. The certificates have been included in the already imported configuration file. Click Options.
The Options tab deals with tunnel persistence, the peer certificate type and compression. Click Networking.
In the Networking tab, check Send all traffic over VPN connection. Skip the Proxy tab and click Advanced.
In the Advanced tab, the most important part is the Extra OpenVPN configuration commands. Amongst other parameters, TLS settings and the used cipher are specified here. Click Save.
Click on Viscosity's taskbar icon, select "Connect proxy.sh".
The following dialog asks for your Username and Password. Enter your proxy.sh VPN credentials here. Check Remember my credentials to save your credentials. Click OK.
Viscosity will now attempt to connect to proxy.sh OpenVPN server. Go to the Details window to review the connection state and to see the IP address that has been assigned to you. Additionally, a bandwidth graph gets generated in nearly real-time.
You're all set now. If you want, you can make sure that Viscosity connects to proxy.sh OpenVPN every time it launches and configure Viscosity so that it runs automatically on each startup. Enjoy!
NB1: If you encounter difficulties to connect with OpenVPN, please try to connect to other servers or try alternative ports, especially more "discreet" ones such as TCP 443 or TCP 80. NB2: If you see "OpenVPN exit" and that your logs are completely empty, this is probable that you haven't installed the TAP driver for Windows 8. Please have a look at this complete article to learn more about the situation.
If you still cannot connect successfully, please open a support ticket and include either a copy of your logs or a screenshot of your configuration and encountered errors. Logs can usually be found in software menus or settings, as well as their directories of installation (.log or .txt files). If you do not include a log or a screenshot, it will be hard for us to help you resolve the issues you have with connecting to our network.
