OpenVPN for Windows 7 (Default)

To begin setting up OpenVPN, download and install the OpenVPN installation package.

Start the installation by right-clicking on the downloaded file and selecting Run as Administrator. Allow the installer to make changes to your computer by clicking Yes.

A welcome screen appears. Click Next.

The license agreement for OpenVPN gets displayed. Click I Agree.

Make sure that all components are selected for installation. Click Next.

If you do not want to install OpenVPN in its default destination folder, click Browse... to define another folder. Otherwise, just click Install.

While the installation runs, you might be asked to install components (e.g. the VPN tunnel interface driver) for which administrator permissions are needed. Allow the installation of these files. When the installation is completed, click Next.

A last installation dialog is shown. Uncheck Show Readme and click Finish.

Then select the .ovpn and .crt files given in your welcome email or available for download in your proxy.sh product details (orĀ you can use our configuration files generator), and paste them into C:/Program Files/OpenVPN/Config.

When asked to give access to the destination folder while copying the configuration file, click Continue to grant administrative access.

The OpenVPN installer should have placed the icon OpenVPN GUI on your desktop. OpenVPN GUI should always be run as administrator, otherwise the routing table is not set up correctly under certain circumstances. Right-click on it and select Run as administrator.

A new item got placed in the taskbar, showing two computers with red screens. The red screens symbolize you are not connected. Right-click on the item and select Connect.

The OpenVPN connection window pops up. A dialog requesting a Username and a Password is shown. Enter your proxy.sh VPN credentials and click OK.

When the connection has been established successful, the OpenVPN connection window closes. Notice the red screens on the OpenVPN taskbar item turned green.

You're now connected securely to our OpenVPN servers. Enjoy!

NB: If you encounter difficulties to connect with OpenVPN, please try to connect to other servers or try alternative ports, especially more "discreet" ones such as TCP 443 or TCP 80. Please also make sure that the port you are connecting through is fully opened in your firewall/router/network. If you still cannot connect successfully, please open a support ticket and include either a copy of your logs or a screenshot of your configuration and encountered errors. Logs can usually be found in software menus or settings, as well as their directories of installation (.log or .txt files). If you do not include a log or a screenshot, it will be hard for us to help you resolve the issues you have with connecting to our network.
